The Academy Awards are the movie industry's biggest event, but they're also a television show. In addition to the ABC crews who made the broadcast happen, Sunday's (March 24) ceremony included some other help as well.

If you recognized host Whoopi Goldberg's black-suited "hallucination" as she introduced best picture nominee (and eventual winner) "A Beautiful Mind," you weren't hallucinating yourself. The G-man in question was "Survivor: Africa" contestant Silas Gaither.

Gaither also helped presenters and winners leave the Kodak Theatre stage as one of the escorts who get a lot of face time during the telecast. His official web site doesn't say how the Tennessee native got his Oscar gig, but it does note that "Currently, Silas is doing auditions for the network pilot season."

One of the broadcast's funnier moments also came courtesy of a TV fixture, "Undeclared" creator Judd Apatow. He filmed the sketch in which Owen Wilson and a reluctant Ben Stiller, introducing the nominees for costume design, dressed up as Harry Potter and a dwarf from "The Lord of the Rings."
